Friday Fun: Ode to Vacation!

I can hardly believe it's already August.  I'm fighting the temptation to feel like summer is just about over. So, in an effort to boost my spirits (and because it seemed WAY too short), I'm posting the following photographic reminders of our awesome lake vacation in July. Wish we could go back and do it all over again!

Up In the Bouncy Clouds

As promised, I'll update you on my recent mega-travel experience solo with Anna. I discussed my concerns about this recently as we set off on our journey by bus and airplane to visit my family, hundreds of miles away.

Well, I have to say....I was really proud of how Anna handled it, and proud of how I handled it too.

We did, of course, have our difficult moments, as is to be expected when you take a three-year-old out of familiar surroundings and drag her on a long adventure to a distant place, far from home and routine.

Sometimes she was cranky.  Sometimes she missed Mama Heidi and Kelsey and her stuffed animals that stayed behind and wanted to be home. Sometimes she ran wild in the airport because the wait was just sooooo looooonnnng.

"Vacation at Home": Yeah Right!

So-called “staycations” are becoming more and more popular these days, especially as our economic woes make it more difficult for many of us to travel.  This week, our office administrator is vacationing from home. And that got me thinking about how, in my view, the “staycation” is not really the relaxing experience it’s intended to be.

Don’t get me wrong, I love lazy days at home when I can read the paper, snack, watch movies, etc.  Sadly, my time for such pursuits is extremely limited.  Given this, you’d think I’d be really psyched for the chance to spend a week off from work at home, right?
