Friday Fun: Storytime with Anna

Happy Friday! And now, without further delay, I present a story created by my daughter. She claims this was a dream, but as she recounted it, I think she started to make it up/ imbellish as she went along.

We hope you enjoy this foray into the mind of a four year old.

You won't believe the stuff I come up with!

Overreact Much?

I've been scouring the web looking for interesting and thought-provoking stuff for the blog.  Just before the tragic school shooting that occurred near Cleveland, Ohio last week, I found this unbelievable article about a four year old's drawing that led to her dad's arrest in Kitchener, Ontario.

Now, my initial reaction was - are you kidding me?? A small child draws a picture and they immediately send in the cavalry? It seemed a drastic case of reacting first and asking questions later.

But then I read about yet another senseless tragedy involving a young student and a gun....and I backed off my outraged stance a little bit.

With Imagination, I'll Get There

Anna's evolving imagination never ceases to amaze and amuse me.

Here is her longest made-up story yet, which she told me the other night. It went something like this:

Holding up a baby doll:  "This baby was in my belly a long time ago. She was in my belly and she almost came out to play with me right before I was born. She came out and I called her Targo. (Confused expression) Do you think she's a girl? I think she's a girl.

"Targo"

Okay, I'm hard at work coming up with some good stuff for next week. Until then, I thought I'd direct your attention to some of my favorite posts, some of which occurred very early in this blog's existence. Where Does This Stuff Come From?!

The light was about to go off. Finally, bedtime had arrived.  And then she said, “Hide, quick! I see one, two, free praying mantises!!!”  Huh?

I complied, and we huddled under the thick comforter, despite the fact that it was a 90 degree day and we don’t have air conditioning.  Anna was wide-eyed – clearly it would be a long time before we actually got to sleep.
