But in my little world, at the time, things felt like they were falling apart. We didn't want to cancel the ceremony because we wouldn't be able to afford to arrange it all again. We had rented tables, chairs, fancy port-a-potties with sinks, all sorts of things we needed to make this farm wedding perfect. More importantly to me, some of my closest friends were coming from hundreds of miles away. They would have to cancel their travel plans at the last minute. Or maybe they would get here only to learn of the cancellation.

Thank You for Being a Friend, Part 2: The Wedding
Yesterday, I shared with you all the story of the chaos that our family experienced mere days before Heidi and I were to be married. I had started to think all sorts of self-pitying thoughts: why me? Why now? What if we have to cancel our wedding? I realize these are not, in the universal scheme of things, terrible problems. Many people have it much, much worse than we did.

I May Be Just a Little Bit Crazy
"I'm not completely insane....I may be just a little bit crazy...."
This is my favorite line from the song "Crazy" by Alana Davis. It's how I feel a lot of the time - I know I'm sane, but I have my crazy moments. And lately I've been having more and more of them.
Part of it is the stress of changing career roles and expectations. Part of it is the financial pressure and uncertainty that causes. And, of course, part of it is having a very bright, verbally skilled toddler who's always trying to play me like a fiddle.
But other than that, I'm super.

Are We There Yet?
Happy Monday! Anna and I are coming off of a very fun weekend. We took a road trip to visit Uncle Keith and had a fabulous time! I just wanted to send him a big "thank you" for having us visit and for being patient with a certain super energetic three-year-old.
One interesting thing I've noticed is that with every trip we take, a theme for the weekend seems to emerge. Perhaps this is because Anna's growth and development is moving faster and becoming more pronounced....or maybe it's just random, who knows.

Patience is Indeed a Virtue
I’m one of the most impatient people you’ll ever meet. When I want results, I want them yesterday. When I want to buy something, assuming it’s feasible to obtain it, I obsess about it until I get it, even if I end up feeling guilty later. I’m dead set on accomplishing my goals. I want ostensible evidence of my efforts ASAP. (Including a large number of followers for this blog, cough, cough.)
Having a child turns the instant gratification mentality upside down. In the past, I often wondered whether I’d be a suitable parent, given my general impatience and my need for order and cleanliness (if you haven’t already, check out “Moms in the Trenches” for more on that subject). I think Heidi had the same concerns, because I am driven and anal and particular about minutia almost as much as I am about what really matters – sad but true.
