Here's the latest from the mouth of our precious and precocious preschooler:
- Anna (as I pick her up from day care): "Can I please have a baby sister?" Me: "Umm, no, honey, these things are really complicated." Anna: "But I promise to take good care of it!" ...and I'm sure "it" would be fortunate. But I don't see that happening!

- Anna wanders out of her bed to the living room where Heidi and I are talking. Me: "What are you doing out here? It's bedtime. We're talking about grown-up things." Anna: "Like pee and poop?" Me: "No!" Anna: "Then what are you talking about?" Me: "Grown-up stuff. Don't worry about it, honey." Anna (eagerly): "What, like body parts and blood and stuff?" Me: "No! Go to bed!!" ....now, when I was a kid, I'd have thought my parents were talking about money or their house instead of blood and stuff....but what do I know?
- Occasionally, Anna gets preoccupied with death for some unknown reason.
Especially my death, which freaks me out a little. Anna (sniffling): "I don't want you to die!" Me: "I
know, honey. We all die someday, but I'm hoping it's not for a very
long time." Anna (crying now): "But if you died, you wouldn't be in my
heart anymore!" Me: "I will always be in your heart, honey. Now don't
worry about me dying. I'm right here with you, see? I hope to be here a
long time and live to be an old, old lady." Anna cries out: "But I don't
want you to be an old lady!" So much for trying to make it better. After all, growing old is better than the alternative. I can't win!

We will always be in each others' hearts, my little love. |
- Anna (whining about sleeping in her room): "But I'm scared of the dark!" Me: "That's why we have your fish light and the hallway light." Anna (pointing to a window high up on her wall): "No, I'm scared of that dark! The dark outside! I want to sleep in your room!" Me: "The dark is still outside even if you are in my room..." Anna: "But it's different dark!" ....I fail to see how, but I know I won't win this one either.
Happy Friday, everyone!
