As It Is Meant to Be

I was scanning the headlines on msn.com one day when I came across this article.  I hope you will read it too. It resonated with me for many reasons, particularly that we, like Dr. Snyderman, never envisioned raising a child together and when that opportunity came along, with little or no time to prepare, we plunged in and said yes.

And it was meant to be, and it has worked out more than beautifully.

I love this story because this woman threw caution to the wind and followed her heart, as we did.  She has always been honest with her daughter about being adopted, and her daughter has a great life - the life her birth mother knew she could not provide, a life that resulted from the amazing sacrifice and love of both the birth and adoptive mothers. So it is with us and Anna. I know when she is an adult she will understand and appreciate the sacrifices that her birth mother made, and that we have made, to give her the best life has to offer, and a future with plentiful opportunities.

Adoption has its challenges, but so does parenting in general, no matter how one came to be a parent. It also provides a beautiful opportunity for loving parents and wonderful children to come together as a family. Those are happy endings not every kid has.  And after all, it's not blood that makes a family - it's LOVE.

Here's to all the wonderful adoptive parents out there, and to those who are considering it, I'd say....follow your heart.  Everything will happen as it is meant to be.
