Just wanted to wish a Happy Father's Day to all of you wonderful dads out there! I learned a lot about being a parent from my own dad, who has always provided a little extra humor for our family, has kept up an optimistic spirit despite all the obstacles life may have thrown at him, and has always believed that his kids could be whatever we wanted to be as long as we put our minds to it.
This has been especially useful to me, as sometimes I feel like kind of a hybrid of mom and dad to the Pie. At least I have a wonderful partner to help. There are so many parents out there who have to do both as single parents and they are amazing people. Here's to all you fabulous parents and your wonderful kids!
That was very sweet! I thought it was pretty insightful, but of course I'm biased. That picture is pretty good, actually; better than I usually look. Sometimes the hardest thing to do with obstacles in life is to treat them as opportunities. Somehow, maybe years later, you realize that the problem and how you reacted to it and learned from it actually turned out to be a valuable learning opportunity. This many times makes you better in so many ways. That doesn't make it any easier at the time, though. I've been through some really bad times in the past several years, but I've found out how faith, family, and toughness I didn't realize I had pulled me through. There is much for me to overcome but I know I can do it. Thanks, Courtney. We love you. Dad
