Friday Fun: My Little Gymnast!

Happy Friday!

Does your child leap recklessly off of furniture? Attempt somersaults in the living room?

If so, chances are that you have said to yourself on more than one occasion, "I've gotta get her into gymnastics!" I can tell you that I have said that many times in the last 2 years or so. After all, it can be hard to stop your child from doing these things - especially if it seems that she moves faster than the speed of light.

My thinking has been that if she's going to do this crazy stuff, she should at least learn how to do it as safely as is possible. Preferably where there is a padded surface nearby! Obviously, I'd prefer to log some hours in the gym instead of the E.R.

So last week, I finally bit the bullet and took Anna to an open gym event. She LOVED it, so now she is taking a gymnastics class for 4 to 6 year olds. I think she's athletically gifted so not only will she have some fun, but maybe she'll also discover something at which she can really excel.

I'll save my musings about trying to not to turn into a crazy sports parent for another day. :)

  1. It's going okay so far, although I don't think she knows what to make of doing all that fun physical stuff in a structured setting. We are going again tomorrow. The schedule piece is tough - 3:30 on a Monday afternoon is hard for us since we both have crazy work schedules. But it's only for a few weeks and so I figured we could handle it and we'll just try to get into a better timed class next session. I'll keep you posted! Seeing her excel and have fun is heartwarming. Seeing her pass out hard afterward is also refreshing. ;)
