Friday Fun: Unleash Your Inner Geek

Those of you who know me know that I'm pretty much a nerd. I enjoy putting together photo albums and scrapbooks. I like crafts and puppets and Play-Doh art...you get the picture.

Then I came across this article, which puts my geeky efforts to shame.

This lady clearly is a pro. And although her biggest inspiration is undoubtedly Star Wars, there are some other cool things in there too. Like the embroidered moon, or my personal favorite, the solar system.

[Not the one featured in the article, which was cooler, but this is still nice.]

I don't know about you, but I'm always trying to come up with new and different activities to do with Anna that don't involve Dora the Explorer or somehow physically injuring me.  And now, with the holidays approaching, new crafty ideas seem to be popping out of the woodwork.

This is great because not only will these kinds of activities engage your kids and (hopefully) keep them out of mischief for awhile, but their creations also could be wonderful gifts for relatives and friends. It's cheaper than shopping and much more meaningful.

Our favorite family tradition is making Christmas tree ornaments out of clay. So far we've mostly done this to decorate our own tree, but I'm thinking we should branch out and make them as gifts too. After all, who doesn't want a Muno ornament from Yo Gabba Gabba?

Yes, I made this one, don't make fun...

Please check out the article and let us know what fun, crafty things you do with or for your kids! I'd love some ideas for activities/homemade gifts from our readers.
