Our recent guest post about
family literacy got me thinking about reading routines. We parents often find ourselves in "reading ruts," given that our kids settle on a favorite book or two and want to hear them over and over (and over and over and over.....) again. This certainly is normal and I enjoy reading Anna her favorite books. The best part is her "reading" along because she knows the stories so well.
But it's also important to introduce new stories with new characters and new ideas to our kids so that they get a broader experience. There are so many storybook worlds and adventures out there that our children will love! So, I thought it could be useful for parents so share some of their kids' favorite stories besides
Goodnight Moon
and
Dr. Seuss
books and the other classics we all know and love.
I'll go first. One of our new favorites is the "
Llama Llama" series by
Anna Dewdney. These stories feature an adorable little llama who goes through many of the things other little kids do, such as separation anxiety, bedtime fears, and aggravation in stores. Anna adores Llama Llama and takes her snuggly, plush llama pretty much everywhere with her. We definitely recommend these stories!
