Friday Fun: The Laundry Basket

One of Anna’s favorite play or hiding places is the laundry basket. She makes it a fort, a car, her office, or sometimes her bed. I love watching her and marvel at the things she comes up with.

And then I think: why the heck do I spend so much money every year on toys when she enjoys common household objects just as much, if not more?!

Take a look at some of Anna’s basket adventures in the Laundry Basket Flip Book(s):

And now more quotable quotes:

  • To my sister-in-law in a store: “Stay where I can see you so a stranger doesn’t get you! You need to stay right here with me and Mama T, okay?”
  • “I said no, I said!”
  • “Do you understand what I’m saying to you?!” Hmm, where has she heard this one?
  • Interrupting a conversation loudly: “’Scuuuuse me, I need to talk to you!” (repeats insistently until she has everyone’s undivided attention) “Ummm…..I need to tell you something. [Dramatic Pause] Ummm, Elmo is on.” You could really insert anything for that last sentence. As long as she is the center of attention, the subject matter is less important!
  • To one of her teachers: “Why are you going in that door? The other door works fine.” Teacher: “Because it’s closer to the bathroom.” Anna: “That’s okay, then.” Make sure you have Anna’s permission next time! Ha ha.
  • As Anna and Mama T are going to sleep, silence descends until a questionable noise is heard in the bedroom. Mama T thinks Anna is asleep, but she says, “You’re supposed to say excuse me before you do that, Mom!” Nothing gets past this child, nothing….
  • Watching my friend discretely breastfeed her baby under a cover: Anna: “What are you doing to her?” Friend: “I’m feeding her.” Anna: (incredulously) “That’s not food, that’s a washcloth!!” This is by far my favorite of the week.

Share some of your own quotable quotes in the comments! Happy Friday!

  1. The quote above: “Stay where I can see you so a stranger doesn’t get you! You need to stay right here with me and Mama T, okay?” brings back fond memories of Anna's recent visit to my house.  Every instruction or statement she said to me was followed by the word, "okay?"

"Come into the playhouse with me, okay?"
"We're going to use this color [of Play-Doh], okay?"
"Big Bear is going to read the story with us, okay?"

It was so cute, and since then I have started to say it myself!

Uncle Keith to Uncle Ralph: "I'm going to the grocery store, okay?"

And of course I have to say it in the way that she does...  I love this girl! :)
