Friday Fun: BFFs!

There's nothing like seeing your child develop his or her first close friendships. I love watching Anna interact with her little friends - unless she's not sharing, of course, and then it's not so fun!

Thankfully those times aren't as plentiful as the ones where she and a friend are engaged in their own little world, cooking things in their kitchen, feeding their baby dolls, etc. There's no complexity, no drama (unless it's over a toy), no adult hang-ups. It's just pure joy.

I was thinking about this on our Labor Day beach trip with friends. I reclined on the beach watching Anna and her friend Izzy B making sand castles and asked myself, when was the last time I had this much fun with a friend?  (Yes, I don't get out much.)

What's really cool about Anna and Izzy's friendship is that their moms have been friends for over 10 years, and Kelsey and Izzy's older sister have known each other forever and are still close today. I'm psyched to see Izzy and Anna following along in their footsteps. It seems fated....Anna was born one day before Izzy's first birthday!

But I digress.  There were 2 highlights of this recent beach outing for me. One was the dynamic duo of Izzy and Anna chasing away the 15 or so seagulls that continued to stalk us the entire time. They had a blast running like crazy and yelling "Wooooo!" or something similar to protect our snacks from the seagull menace.

Remember this guy?

My other favorite part was the girls pretending their beach towels were kites and trying to "fly" them. Check out the flip book below:

Of course, kids only last so long at the beach, so we returned home for the girls to continue the fun in our backyard.  Check out these adorable pics of the girls:

[By the way, I need to thank Izzy's mom for the photos - she's an amazing photographer. It's so nice to have some Anna pics that didn't come from the cell phone camera!]

You can clearly see the joy on the kids' faces, which is really awesome. It reminds me of my own carefree younger days digging in the dirt, playing wiffle ball and riding bikes with my friend Amy. If only life could always be so fun!
